The Miley Cyrus that I saw on Hannah Montata (the movie that was released in 2009) and the personality I see now are so much distant from each other.
That being said, I firmly believe people, deep down inside, do not change -'change' in the sense that you do not totally reverse your core personality- and that they simply 'expand' upon the core personal characteristics they bring when they come into this world. So perhaps she always had this dark side we see nowadays, it is perhaps just that the correct 'external conditions' have been met to largely manifest them. In either case, despite all the hype she went through, some speculate that she and Liam Hemsworth have in fact gotten married, secretly. It is also interesting to note her choice of words for describing him. Recently she referred to him as the 'survival partner'.
